Ralf Rangnick’s unblemished start as Manchester United’s interim manager came to a disappointing end as Joao Moutinho fired Wolves to their first win at Old Trafford since 1980....CONTINUE READING

United, who have few complaints about the outcome after a dismal effort, stay seventh on 31 points, four points behind Arsenal, who presently occupy the fourth Champions League berth.

Wolves created many chances in the first half, but it wasn’t until eight minutes from time that they were rewarded, as Moutinho pounced on a headed clearance from Phil Jones and blasted past David De Gea. With that we’ll be looking at the five players who cost the Manchester based outfit all three points in yesterday’s match;

Scott McTominay

blank

McTominay delivered a “disasterclass” on Monday after a sensational performance against Burnley. The Scot was wasteful in possession and poor off the ball, so he couldn’t offer enough support for the defenders. To make matters worse, the Scotland international was nowhere to be found and came too late to stop Portugual Midfielder, Joao Moutinho from scoring.

Matic

blank

Matic’s levels dropped dramatically after earning a second consecutive start. While the Serb tried to push Manchester United forward at every chance, he was unable to break free from the shackles imposed by Wolves’ sturdy midfielders. Furthermore, the visitors outran the veteran star in the park one too many times. It’s unclear why Fred wasn’t involved on Monday.

Sancho

blank

With Bruno Fernandes relegated to the bench, the burden of creating chances fell primarily on Jadon Sancho’s youthful shoulders. Unfortunately for Manchester United, the young Englishman was unable to create any chances and grew increasingly wasteful as he approached the Wolves box.

Shaw

blank

Shaw reverted to form against Wolves after displaying signs of revival in his last appearance. The English international was sloppy with the ball at his feet, losing it 18 times. In addition, he failed to contain Adama Traore after his appearance in the second half.

Cavani.

blank

It’s not every day that Cavani has a bad final third performance. Monday, on the other hand, was one of those days when the Uruguayan striker simply couldn’t force his way into the game. Cavani could not be blamed for his lack of effort, but he could not find a way to get along with his teammates.
