While the Healthy Eating Pyramid is a useful guide to the kinds (and amounts) of foods we should eat to keep healthy, some meals are better for our eyes than others.

According to WebMD & Medicalnewstoday, here are 5 foods that can cleanse the eye, improve vision and flush out infection:

1. Broccoli

These closely related veggies contain vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E, which is another effective mineral combination, in the forms of lutein, zeaxanthin, and beta-carotene.

To protect the cells in your eyes from free radicals, an unstable chemical type that harms healthy tissue, they all work as antioxidants.

2. Sweet potatoes

Your eyes’ ability to adjust to darkness is aided by the beta-carotene present in orange fruits and vegetables such sweet potatoes, carrots, melons, mangos, and apricots.

A tiny quantity of vitamin E and more than half of the daily required amount of vitamin C are also present in a sweet potato.

3. Eggs

Lutein and zeaxanthin, which can lower the risk of age-related vision loss, are abundant in eggs. In addition to zinc, eggs are a significant source of the vitamins C and E.

4. Leafy greens

Leafy greens are beneficial for your eyes and general health since they are simple to digest, simple to add to every meal, and widely available.

Also keep in mind that greens are healthier for you the darker they are. Due to their high vitamin C content, foods like kale, collard greens, and spinach are ideal choices. You need vitamin C to keep the blood vessels in your eyes healthy.

5. Fatty fish

Omega-3, a crucial ingredient for eye health, is found in fish and is a very good source of it. The polyunsaturated fatty acid omega-3 is crucial for the health of your retina.

Salmon, trout, tuna, swordfish, sardines, anchovies, and mackerel are all excellent choices for oily fish and should ideally be eaten at least once or twice per week.
