The result was far from being the Reds’ biggest win over their arch rivals in recent years, but was a big statement nonetheless. Heading into the game, a lot of focus had been on the managers of the two teams.

Both Dutch and both with plenty to prove in the Premier League, the spotlight was well and truly on.After the game, it’s safe to say that Arne Slot has come out well and truly on top against his old Ajax adversary Erik ten Hag. Once Luis Diaz put Liverpool 1-0 up, the direction the three points were heading in was never really in doubt.

To Ten Hag’s credit, he has now admitted that he realised as much.

Erik ten Hag praises Liverpool

Ten Hag has not had much fun taking part in English football’s biggest game since arriving at United in 2022.

Although he and his team did knock Liverpool out of the FA Cup last season, that has so far been the Dutchman’s only victory against the Reds. Mixed in there, Ten Hag has had the humiliation of being on the end of the notorious 7-0 thrashing at Anfield in March 2023.

This was not quite the embarrassment that that was, but it still showed the gulf in quality between the two teams. And speaking via premierleague.com after the game, Ten Hag praised Liverpool’s class on the day.“We made mistakes and they were very clinical in finishing. They [Liverpool] did very well,” he said.

We made mistakes. It was all individual errors. Maybe the last one you can debate where our double-six was. Liverpool did brilliantly but the goals conceded expectations were not that high.“It’s clear Liverpool deserved the win,” added the 54-year-old. “We have to be humble, take this and improve our game.

What next for Liverpool?

After three games and three emphatic wins, things could hardly have started better for Slot at Liverpool. The Reds are yet to even concede a goal during the opening trio of matches and passed a massive test in that regard on Sunday.Nevertheless, it is important not to get carried away.

Tough times will surely come at some stage of the season and expectations should remain cautious.Having said that, Sunday is a day which is worth celebrating and it shows that Liverpool are very much heading in the right direction under new management.

Now comes the first international break of the season. With Liverpool hoping everyone comes back fit and healthy, they are next in action on Saturday, September 14th….CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLE>>>
