In Nairobi, super petrol, diesel and kerosene will now retail at KSh 189.84, KSh 173.10 and KSh 163.05, effective midnight for the next 30 days.

EPRA noted the prices included the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen  proposed to raise the fuel levy by 39% for road maintenance. Murkomen said the Ministry’s budget was insufficient to conduct maintenance across the country. His remarks angered Kenyans, who said he would not feel the impact since taxpayers fuel government officials’ cars.

Despite criticism, Murkomen defended proposals to raise the Road Maintenance Levy Fund (RMLF) rate from KSh 18 to KSh 25 per litre. The CS outlined a financing gap of KSh 315 billion for road maintenance over the next five years.
