Elon Musk says he will accept the results of the 2024 presidential election, no matter who wins. When asked the question by a reporter for The Atlantic, the world’s wealthiest man responded, “Of course,” and then reportedly added, “Don’t be jackass.”
The controversial CEO of both SpaceX and Tesla officially endorsed former President Donald Trump for president in a July 13 post on X.
“I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk posted, shortly after news broke about the assassination attempt that day. Since then, Musk has become increasingly vocal on the site, writing “Trump/Vance LFG!!” numerous times, and other similar posts.
There’s context behind the exchange between Musk and the reporter, of course: Trump’s past efforts to overturn President Joe Biden’s 2020 win have raised concerns that the former president and his allies will reprise their actions should he lose in the fall to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Furthermore, Musk has continued to amplify far right rhetoric and spread election-related misinformation on the social media platform he owns, X.
He has, for example, reposted on several occasions the unsubstantiated claim that Democrats are “importing voters” to sway the election results.
That’s a conspiracy, seized upon by the Trump campaign, that plays on frustration and fear about migrants illegally crossing the U.S. border, and wrongly conflates attempts to pave a way toward citizenship for migrants with election tampering. Musk himself was born in South Africa and obtained U.S. citizenship (and thereby his right to vote) in 2002, the BBC reported.
Just last week, Musk shared a parody campaign ad, that features a deepfake version of Harris’ voice saying she is “the ultimate diversity hire,” and calling Biden “the ultimate deep state puppet.” Alongside a laughing emoji, Musk posted, “This is amazing...CONTINUE READING>>
