EFCC Spokesperson Dele Oyewale quoted the Acting Zonal Director, Lagos Zonal Command of the commission, Assistant Commander Michael Wetkaz, who expressed concern about the increasing participation of young people in cybercrimes.

Wetkaz emphasised that internet fraudsters are now using people for rituals and engaging in sextortion, which has led to international repercussions, including victims abroad considering suicide.

He highlighted the wide-ranging impact of cybercrimes on the country’s reputation and the efforts being made to address and prevent these activities. Wetkaz also mentioned that the EFCC recently investigated cases involving 100 individuals involved in internet fraud.

He emphasised the need for collective efforts to eradicate these crimes from society, stressing the bleak future that lies ahead if young people continue to pursue a life of internet fraud.

Furthermore, Wetkaz expressed gratitude to the Sector Commander, FRSC, Lagos State Sector Command, Patrick Davou, for his collaboration and requested enhanced information sharing between the two agencies.

In response, Davou acknowledged the critical role of the EFCC in combating fraudulent activities and offered technical support to assist the anti-graft agency in its investigations.

Davou also highlighted the FRSC’s responsibilities, including ensuring road safety and reducing congestion on highways to support the country’s economic activities.
