The employee, who was previously part of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), had been transferred to Gachagua’s office to assist in his efforts against illicit brewing activities.

According to the Deputy President, the attack took place as the employee was leaving his home in Kileleshwa, Nairobi.

A lone gunman on a motorbike fired a shot aimed at the employee’s head. Fortunately, the quick reaction of the employee caused the bullet to hit his shoulder instead.

“The assailant wanted to instill fear in me and my team. When the officer was leaving his home, someone on a motorbike shot at him. The bullet missed his head and struck his shoulder,” Gachagua recounted. The injured employee was rushed to a Nairobi hospital, where he spent a week recovering and having the bullet removed.

Gachagua expressed his frustration over the fact that, despite the incident being reported, the perpetrators have not been arrested. He stated that he personally informed President William Ruto about the attempted assassination, as the President was initially unaware of the incident.

The Deputy President also lamented the lack of action taken against those responsible for the attack. “To this day, the individuals who attempted this crime have not been brought to justice,” he said.

In recent months, Gachagua has faced political tension, particularly from leaders accusing him of engaging in tribal politics through his support for the “one man, one vote, one shilling” policy. This policy is seen by some as favoring certain regions over others.

The tension escalated in June when Gachagua criticized NIS boss Noordin Haji for not providing timely intelligence reports, which he claimed left the government unprepared for protests against the Finance Bill.

Following these criticisms, some leaders, especially from Northern Kenya, called for Gachagua’s resignation, accusing him of sidelining the NIS boss.

However, Gachagua has remained firm, stating that he is an integral part of President Ruto’s administration and would not be forced out. Despite facing an impeachment motion, he maintains that it has not yet been formally presented to him.

The attempted assassination on Gachagua’s employee highlights the risks and dangers associated with his fight against illicit activities.

The employee, who had a significant role within NIS before joining Gachagua’s team, was specifically chosen for his expertise in dealing with such threats.

Gachagua had sought out this particular officer to help him in his campaign against the illegal alcohol trade, which has been a major issue in certain regions of Kenya...CONTINUE READING>>
