Diphtheria is highly contagious and spreads through the air by coughing or sneezing. It primarily affects children, but adults who have not been immunized are also vulnerable.

The disease can be prevented through vaccination, but many in Kano have not received the vaccine due to lack of access or reluctance.

The outbreak in Kano highlights the importance of public health measures such as vaccination programs, early diagnosis, and timely treatment.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been working closely with the Nigerian government to provide medical assistance and coordinate efforts to contain the outbreak.
