Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has criticized Gen Z youths who have been leading social media campaigns calling for Raila Odinga’s defeat in the upcoming African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship race.

Odinga is set to compete against four others in the February 2025 race.

“To the Gen Z and all Kenyans wishing Tinga @RailaOdinga bad luck, shame on you! Be patriotic, folks! All that noise on social media, and you’re saying nothing meaningful,” Barasa scolded.

Recently, President William Ruto officially launched Odinga’s campaign during a ceremony held at the State House, attended by various East African presidents.

However, some Gen Z youths on social media have been campaigning for Odinga’s defeat, feeling that he betrayed their protests aimed at pressuring President Ruto to step down, only for Odinga to later show cooperation with him.
