Harris’ campaign posted side-by-side images of the two rallies on Tuesday, showing that while Harris appeared to fill the entire arena at Temple University, the top tier of the stadium was left vacant when Trump spoke at the same auditorium in June.

“Harris rally vs. Trump rally,” the campaign said. Ahead of Harris’ Tuesday rally, Pennsylvania-based political journalist Nick Field also responded to a video on X, formerly Twitter, that showed empty seats during Trump’s rally on June 22, noting that the former president’s campaign “needed some of it curtained off and left the whole upper bowl empty.”

In the original post, Chris Jackson, a Democratic election commissioner for Lawrence County in Tennessee, captioned the video, “Look at all those empty seats in Philadelphia. Old man can’t even fill a high school gym fill anymore. Sad.”

The Liacouras Center, which seats 10,000 people in its main arena, is located on the campus of Temple University but managed and operated by a third-party firm.

At the time of his event, Trump was still running against President Joe Biden, who would go on to withdraw from the race a month later on July 21. The Trump rally at Temple University was also held ahead of the June 27 presidential debate, which is widely seen as the catalyst to Biden’s exit from the race, the assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, and the Republican National Convention where he named Senator JD Vance as his running mate.

Harris’ Philadelphia event was highly anticipated because it would mark her debut appearance alongside Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as the 2024 Democratic ticket. She revealed Walz as her running mate earlier in the day.

“Looks like every seat is full for Harris-Walz. The entire upper section was empty for Trump,” Democratic strategist Sawyer Hackett captioned a video of the crowded venue on Tuesday.

Amanda Marcotte, a senior writer at Salon, also noted the difference between the crowd size at Harris’ rally and Vance’s nearby event in South Philadelphia earlier Tuesday. She tweeted that attending both “was like leaving a bitter divorced man meet-up and going straight to a Taylor Swift concert.”She reported that about 200 supporters showed up at Vance’s event..CONTINUE READING>>
