In the last few months, Chelsea and Mason Mount have been in a contract extension talk but, the negotiation has reportedly hit a snag.

The England International reportedly wants Chelsea to level him with Reece James’ new wages. Reece James became the most paid Defender in Chelsea history earlier this season after Chelsea offered him a 5-year contract worth £250,000 every week.

Mason Mount reportedly wanted the same term but Chelsea’s hierarchy was against it. They wanted Mason Mount to commit more years to Chelsea but, they don’t want him to pay him his preferred wage.

Mason Mount hasn’t been in a good form this season but no one can underestimate the impact that he has played at Chelsea in the last 2 seasons. The fact that he’s a homegrown Player also stirs up a bit of sentiments but, that’s not enough for Todd Boehly to break his policy.

The American Businessman has been trying to reduce Chelsea’s wage bill since he took over. That’s why they are signing young Players and offering them more than 6 years contract.

While this development is great as Chelsea won’t be haemorrhaging money because of wages paid to Players, it might make the West London club to lose their experienced and senior Players.

Mason Mount is likely going to leave, that’s a lost for Chelsea and it’s because they don’t want to increase their offer. The likes of Mateo Kovavic, N’Golo Kante, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Ben Chilwell and Edouard Mendy might also leave Chelsea because the Club won’t want to offer them an insane increment when it’s time to negotiate a new contract.
