Chelsea eyeing Rashford

Todd Boehly is a keen admirer of wantaway Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo but a potential move for the Portuguese star may be difficult to complete, however a possible move for his team-mate Marcus Rashford could be on the cards.

Simon Jones on Substack has indicated that Rashford, who was of interest to Chelsea in the summer transfer window, is still on the Blues radar and has been somewhat unsettled by the arrival of Ronaldo.

He said: “His contract situation is an interesting one, and he has been unsettled since Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival.

“I’m told Chelsea are still keeping an eye on the situation still now, even after Tuchel’s departure.”

Rashford’s United contract expires in the summer, although Erik Ten Hag is a keen admirer of the forward and will hope to seal a new deal after the World Cup.

Gvardiol still on Chelsea radar

Despite the majority of Chelsea’s summer signings being in defence, Todd Boehly is still interested in RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.

The Croatian defender was of interest to Spurs and Chelsea in the transfer window, with the latter seeing an £80m deal plus add-ons to acquire his services for 2023 being refused by Leipzig.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano in his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, Chelsea are likely to go back in for Gvardiol after more impressive domestic displays although his focus is currently on the World Cup

Romano said: “At the moment I’m told Chelsea remain interested but there’s still nothing agreed; the race is open, nothing will happen now as he’s 100% focused on World Cup.”

Nkunku set for 2023 summer move

More light has been shed on the details surrounding Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku’s projected move to Chelsea.

football.london reported last month that the Frenchman had already signed a pre-contract agreement with the Blues ahead of a proposed move for the 2023/24 season.

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs is also of the understanding that Nkunku joining Chelsea is far more likely to happen in the summer of 2023 as opposed to the January transfer window.

“Christopher Nkunku update. Although Leipzig call a move to Chelsea a “transfer rumour”, am told there is now a broad club-to-club agreement in place for summer 2023 worth around €70m. (£60m)
