Buhari Replies Akeredolu After He Said He Is Going To Acquire Arms For Amotekun Corps

In a statement released by the Governor Of Ondo State, His Excellency Gov Rotimi Akeredolu, he noted that in his plight to protect his people, he is going to equip the Amotekun corps with arms in Ondo State. He stated that Katsina was able to arm it’s state security forces.

However, reacting to this statement released by Rotimi Akeredolu, President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday released a statement, where he strongly asserted that there is no state, not even Katsina State nor any other state in the Federation, that has been authorized to procure automatic weapons for their security outfits.

President Muhammadu Buhari noted that under the existing regulations, only the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) can issue such authorization, upon proper clearance by the President and Commander in chief.

President Muhammadu Buhari noted that as it is at this moment, no such approval has been approved to any such state.

It can be recalled that in the statement released by Governor Akeredolu, he noted that bandits have unchecked access to sophisticated weapons. The state Government cannot look on while it’s citizens are being terrorized and murdered with impunity.

Governor Akeredolu noted that denying Amotekun the right to bear arms exposes the south west to life threatening and organized crime, which would also be a deliberate destruction to their agricultural sector. He stated that he will defend his people.
