ODM leader Raila Odinga has revealed that he talked to ex-IEBC Commissioner Irene Masit on Monday and that she is willing to return home.

Raila said Masit had sent him with condolences to deliver to the family and residents of Chepkorio where her father Mzee Chirchir Masit was being laid to rest.

Raila who was a speaker at the funeral of Mzee Masit alleged the ex-IEBC Commissioner had revealed to him that she fled because of fears over her safety because of the dispute over the results of the elections.

Odinga said Masit revealed to her that her father Mzee Masit was stressed about her fate outside the country.

Raila said Masit noted that when she served as IEB ccommissioner she did nothing wrong.

He promised that her fate would be resolved soon, saying she is willing to return home.

He said Masit was among the four commissioners who rejected the results of the last elections adding that although they were majority their views did not carry the day.

Odinga was speaking during the burial of Mzee Masit at Chepkorio in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

He died at the age of 102 years.

He described Masit as a close friend and a member of ODM for a long time.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi who was also present said has asked ex-Commissioner Masit to return home immediately.

Sudi said Irene played her role during the last election and since the elections were in the past she should return home.

“We are asking Irene Masit to take her belongings and return home immediately,” Sudi said.

Sudi said there was nothing wrong with what the ex-commissioner did and that politics should not get personal.

Sudi said Masit worked closely with Odinga and the ODM chief was now working with Ruto for the unity of the country.

Sudi said he considers himself a son of Odinga who had played a great role in the unity and development of the country.

“There comes a time when Kenyan is bigger than everyone and Odinga has always proved that,” Sudi said.

He said the recent deal between Odinga and President William Ruto was proof that the two value the country.

“What the two leaders did recently was for the sake of the country and they talked as two people with wisdom and agreed on broad-based government to save the country,” Sudi said.
