The Inspector General of Police nominee Douglas Kanja has revealed that he is worth Sh46 million. “My worth now is around Sh46 million. It is made up of land, I am a farmer, I have agricultural activities, I have a house in Nairobi, I have a rural home, and the salary that I earn,” Kanja revealed.

During the vetting, the IG nominee vowed to protect government offices if approved by Parliament

“Parliament is one of the key bodies established by the Constitution and if approved, this is an area we can’t allow anyone to joke around. For me, I will do whatever it takes to ensure that this parliament is safe and secure as IG,” said Kanja.

The IG nominee also promised to ensure that police officers wear the necessary uniforms before any deployment.

“Mine is to ensure that whenever we are going for any type of deployment, police wear the necessary uniforms,” Kanja added.

Kanja has been serving as the Deputy Inspector General of Police and will take over from Japhet Koome if approved by Parliament.

Previously he served as Commandant of the General Service Unit for five years, Deputy Commandant of the General Service Unit for three years, and County Police Commander in charge of Kilifi County.

The IG nominee also served as Deputy Commandant of the Kenya Airports Police Unit, Chief Armourer at the Police Headquarters, and Deputy Chief Armourer at the Kenya Police Service Headquarters, among other high-level positions within the ranks of NPS.
