For the past 3 years, Barcelona has only lifted a silverware just once which was the Copa Del Rey they won in 2021, but in same time frame they’ve endured many negative situations on and off the pitch which must have been frustrating for their fans.
In 2019, ‘Culers’ as they are fondly called witnessed their team blow away Liverpool in their Champions League semifinal clash at the Camp Nou.
A brace from talisman Lionel Messi and a Luis Suarez strike saw Barça record a 3-nil victory over The Reds which put them in the driving seat going into the second leg.
Unfortunately for the Catalans, Liverpool rose from the ruins to beat them 4-0 at Anfield which left everyone associated with Barcelona shattered and heartbroken at the time.
A year later, the worst that could ever been imagined happened to Barça as they were bullied and brutalized by Bayern Munich in their UCL quarterfinal tie which ended 2-8 in favor of the Bavarians.
As if these above-mentioned events weren’t enough, Barça’s greatest ever player Messi agonizingly left them after both parties failed to reach an agreement over a new contract for the Argentine superstar.
Messi’s departure left Barça fans devastated as many couldn’t imagine how life without the 35-year old in their club would be after many years together.
The Azulgranas also had to experience Thursday night football in the Europa League for the first time since the 2003/04 season after they were eliminated from a UCL group that had the likes of Bayern Munich and Benfica in it.
Only true fans could have survived all these, so massive respect to those who supported Barcelona in this period. They really deserve to celebrate and be happy with the team’s success once again.
