On Monday, August 26, the U.S. announced that Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, Ambassador Bonnie D. Jenkins will visit Nairobi on August 28.

This marks the third high-profile visit by a U.S. official to Kenya within a month.

Ambassador Jenkins’ visit is expected to focus on discussions with African policymakers and industry leaders regarding the future of nuclear energy in Africa.

Her visit follows closely on the heels of Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Uzra Zeya’s visit, which centered on police operations during recent protests in Kenya.

These visits highlight the strategic importance the U.S. places on its relationship with Kenya, especially in the wake of the mid-June protests.
