Arsenal’s course of action when the transfer window reopens in January may be determined by Emile Smith Rowe....CONTINUE READING

The 22-year-development old’s has slowed down after a breakthrough season in which he signed a new contract, received the club’s historic number 10 shirt (previously worn by Dennis Bergkamp, Jack Wilshere, and Mesut Ozil), won his first senior England caps, and scored 10 Premier League goals.

This is partly attributable to Gabriel Martinelli’s strong play on the left side of Arsenal’s attack, but it’s also due to Smith Rowe’s struggles with his fitness as he continues to struggle with a troubling groyne condition. This season, Smith Rowe has played in just 47 minutes of games.

After Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat at Manchester United earlier this month, the issue reappeared during the post-game warm-up.

When the offensive midfielder came to the locker room, it was noticed that he appeared upset, and Mikel Arteta showed sympathy for the young player.

That has been a persistent problem for him. Prior to the 3-0 victory over Brentford a few weeks ago, the Arsenal manager addressed the media in a press conference. “He’s had some discomfort in the groin area and hasn’t had any continuity this season.

“We’re attempting to evaluate it.

“Since he’s such a crucial player for us, we’re trying to help him as much as we can in every way we can. We need him to be healthy, available, and operating at his peak. Unfortunately, he wasn’t here for both this and previous periods.

Dr. Rajpal Brar, DPT, a medical expert, provided information on Smith Rowe’s groyne issues on his YouTube channel. He also discussed the keys to his recovery and a future return to action:

“Patience is the key to recovering here, and Mikel [Arteta] again hinted at this. Rushing this process won’t work.

“They’ll load Emile and monitor his reaction. In order to be able to withstand those greater intensities, they will need to ramp him down if he doesn’t react well before gradually reloading.

In these situations, it’s crucial to exercise caution and initiative lest it result in an even more drawn-out return to play procedure, which is exactly what Arsenal is doing with Emile Smith Rowe.

Smith Rowe is not anticipated to be sidelined for an extended amount of time, despite the fact that there is no date for his return, according to The Athletic.

Although it is unclear if this means he will play before the season ends for the World Cup, his development may have an impact on Arsenal’s January transfer goals.

The 22-year-old will be able to resume his conflict with Martinelli and possibly prevent the Gunners from spending millions of pounds on a new winger if he can resolve his groyne problems in time for the second half of the season.

The Brazilian’s most natural replacement at the moment is Reiss Nelson, but it’s unclear whether or not Arteta has come to trust him.

In light of the aforementioned, Arteta and technical director Edu might be compelled to pursue a deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk of Shakhtar Donetsk if Smith Rowe’s injury issues persist before and after the World Cup.

According to London, he was one of the names considered over the summer.

By the time the January transfer window opens, Arsenal should be in a stronger position to make the Champions League. This is thanks to their strong start to the season.

Squad rotation will be essential given the number of games that need to be played in 2023, and Arteta cannot afford to be lacking in options.
