The Yahaya Bello government joined other states to pursue the lawsuit to lessen the hardship caused by the lack of funds, according to a statement from the information commissioner, Kingsley Fanwo.

The old and new naira notes are still legal tender till December 31, 2023, according to a decision made by the apex court last week. Many merchants, however, continue to reject the old notes as valid legal tender.

He said, “Anyone who rejects the old naira notes should be reported to security and government authorities for immediate action.

Moreover, banks that reject old naira deposits must be closed. Rejecting the previous naira notes is blatantly against the Supreme Court’s decision”.

Lastly, “If the banks are releasing the old naira notes, they are compelled to likewise receive it. After receiving independence from the Supreme Court, we cannot keep killing our economy”.
