Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua OBE (born 15 October 1989), addressed as Anthony Joshua, is a renowned British professional boxer. He holds the title of undisputed heavyweight champion.

At the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and numerous other international athletic competitions, he has successfully represented Great Britain. Anthony Joshua began his athletic career as a football player and didn’t switch to boxing until he was in his late teens.

He went from being a troubled teen to a heavyweight professional over time. He had an excellent record and was unbeaten during his amateur career, thanks to his athletic prowess. He won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

He has established himself as a formidable puncher and top-tier opponent thanks to his amazing rise from the amateur ranks to the world championships.

Anthony Joshua has successfully defended four of the six heavyweight championships held by the world and was a finalist for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. He is known for competing in high-profile fights with significant financial stakes and attracting record-breaking audiences.

Early Life & Education

Robert Joshua and Yeta Odusanya welcomed Anthony Joshua into the world on October 15, 1989, in Watford, Hertfordshire. He spent most of his formative years in his Nigerian ancestral home. When his parents separated at five years old, his mother decided to return. His parents are Nigerian.

To attend Kings Langley Secondary School, he went back to Watford. Because of his middle name, Oluwafemi, his friends and teachers gave him the nickname Femi. He has three siblings: Jacob Joshua, Janet Joshua, and Loretta Joshua.

Growing up, Anthony Joshua was a standout in football and athletics. He also demonstrated great promise as a sprinter when he broke the 100-meter record by running the distance in 11.6 seconds. Before starting a career in boxing, he was a bricklayer.

Ben Ileyemi, his cousin, drove him to the Barnet Finchley Amateur Boxing Club. This turned out to be a turning point because he soon started boxing training here.
Career

In 2009 and 2010, Anthony Joshua won the Haringey Boxing Cup twice in a row. He won all one of his 18 amateur fights during his blazing 20s. Wins in the Senior ABA Championships were among them. He declined the £50,000 offer to become a professional.

In the European Amateur Boxing Championships in June 2011, he triumphed over Cathal McMonagle and Eric Brechlin. However, Mihai Nistor, a Romanian, interrupted him.

He soon won the GB Amateur Boxing Championships while competing for the GB Boxing Team. He was given a spot in the 2012 Olympic Games because of his achievement in the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships. Anthony Joshua has a 40-3 amateur record and was named Amateur Boxer of the Year in 2011 by the Boxing Writers Club of Great Britain.

Despite being a relative amateur on the world stage, he won the gold medal in the super heavyweight event at the 2012 London Olympics by defeating Italy’s Roberto Cammarelle.

In October 2013, he made his Matchroom Sport professional debut. He went unbeaten in every one of his 19 fights during the following three years. When he was 24 years old, he won the WBC International Heavyweight title.

To win the Commonwealth heavyweight championship in 2015, he went on to fight Gary Cornish. Later, he successfully defended this championship against Dillian Whyte, but with some setbacks.

To win his first world championship, Anthony Joshua next defeated IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin in 2016. He defeated Dominic Breazeale in a fight to retain this championship. In 2017, Anthony Joshua faced Eric Molina in what turned out to be the second defence of his IBF title. He kept winning, and the average number of people watching his matches grew.

He and Wladimir Klitschko‘s highly anticipated matchup was scheduled to happen in April 2017 at Wembley. The WBA Super Heavyweight title, which was up for grabs, would be at stake.

In front of 90,000 spectators, he defeated the opponent with theatrical flair. The most significant bout Anthony Joshua had to confront was his contest with Wladimir Klitschko. Boxing legend Wladimir Klitschko had just one defeat in his career.

There was talk of a rematch between the two men. However, on August 3, 2017, Wladimir Klitschko announced his retirement from boxing, stopping those rumours.

The next opponent for Anthony Joshua‘s WBA championship defence was Kubrat Pulev. Carlos Takam, however, took Kubrat Pulev‘s position because of injury. Since more than 70,000 tickets had already been sold, this caused a stir. But on the day of the fight, crowds flocked to the venue to watch Anthony Joshua successfully defend his title.

For his maximum career income of £18 million, he would then face Joseph Parker. The bout was planned to take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on January 8, 2018. Anthony Joshua was able to defend the WBO belt in a thrilling contest successfully. Moreover, he kept his titles for a long time.

Personal Life

Anthony Joshua and Nicole Osborne, a pole dance instructor whom he knows from school, had a kid together, Joseph Bayley Temiloluwa Prince Joshua. Together, they are responsible for Joseph’s duties.

Amir Khan, a boxer, charged Anthony Joshua with having an affair with Farval Makhdoom, his ex-wife. Anthony Joshua refuted the report, saying he had never even spoken to Farval Makhdoom.

Anthony Joshua has been the boyfriend of Vick Hope (2018) and Faryal Makhdoom (2017). He was also rumoured to have dated Bella Hadid (2017). He has no married wife.
