President Williman Ruto reappointed Wahome to the Ministry of Lands after dismissing his Cabinet following youth-led protests across the country.

While appearing before the same committee in 2022, Wahome revealed her net worth stood at KSh 218 million. “My net worth is KSh 218 million, and this is the value of properties between myself and my husband.

They are family assets. Until September, I have earned a salary from parliament and been in and off practising law because as a member of parliament, you have very little time in your hands,” she told the committee in 2022.

Wahome appeared before the committee again in 2024 for a fresh round of vetting, and she revealed that her net worth, combined with her husband’s, stood at KSh 327 million. “My net worth is about…. KSh 327.5 million… I was worth slightly less when you vetted me,” Wahome said.

Wahome declared her wealth had grown by over KSh 100 million, which she attributed to property appreciation and rental arrears.

“It is the properties which have increased in terms of appreciation in value and there was one tenant that was not paying my family rent and they paid around KSh 14 million sometimes in March,” Wahome explained. Wahome told the committee that she had worked as an advocate for the High Court since she was admitted in 1985.

She was the MP for Kandara for two terms from 2013 to 2022 and when she was elected for a third term, she was nominated as the CS for Water and Sanitation and resigned as an MP. She was moved to the Ministry of Lands in October 2023, where she served until the Cabinet was dismissed on July 11, 3034.

Debra Barasa, the CS nominee for Health, was the second candidate to appear before the appointments committee and declared that her wealth stood at KSh 455 million.

CS nominee for Interior Kithure Kindiki also appeared before the committee and declared that his net worth had grown to KSh 694 million from KSh 544 million, which he declared in 2022...CONTINUE READING>>
