Speaking on Monday, Oduor said a lot of things have changed in the almost 15 years the current constitution has existed.

She said these include geopolitical, social and economic issues.

The Attorney General gave the case of South Africa where they reviewed their constitution after just 10 years and a lot of things had to be changed or included.

“Not only that it is the right time but our constitution is 15 years. You realise in South Africa, after 10 years they had to review their constitution and they came up with very many new things.

“15 years is sufficient time for a country to relook at their constitution because many things have changed. Geopolitical, social and economic issues have all changed,” Oduor said onTV47.

She added that while a review is needed for Kenya, it is not something that one can do alone, but a collective exercise.

Oduor insisted that it is an exercise that has to go back to the people and their representatives.

She noted that her role or that of her office is just to advise on how to go about it.

“The constitution is ripe for review but you can’t do it by yourself. You have to take it back to the people and parliamentarians and representatives of the people.”

The AG’s remarks come against the backdrop of calls by Opposition leader Raila Odinga to have the Constitution amended.

Raila had in July said the anticipated national conversation over issues raised by Gen Z could lead to constitutional review.

The opposition boss said the time had come for the country to critically relook at the 2010 Constitution to address existing gaps.

Raila said that a closer look at the Constitution and if need be, change, would allow a progressive nation.

“Kenyans met at the Bomas of Kenya and deliberated for a very long time and came up with a very progressive constitution. That constitution was bastardized to a certain extent during the so-called Naivasha process,” Raila said.

“We must go back to the Bomas draft constitution put it back on the table and see how what needs to be cleaned up so that we can have a progressive constitution.”

In 2022, after Ruto was elected president, he wrote to Parliament proposing the creation of the office of the leader of the official Opposition.

He said his administration is committed to strengthening the opposition to enhance transparency and accountability.

He also proposed the embedding of the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary in the Constitution….CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLE>>>
