The senator who has officially expressed interest in the office of senate president stated that he supported the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket so that a Christian, preferably him, who is also from the south-eastern part of Nigeria, will anchor the post in order to maintain a balance of power.

Orji Kalu, when asked if he would be comfortable with a Muslim senate president, said, “No, I only supported a Muslim-Muslim ticket because that was the only way APC could win the election, but I will not be comfortable with a Muslim senate president because it will not go well for the country.” This is a secular country, and to maintain that power, it must be shared equally.
