The incident unfolded at the Mukhonje grounds, a popular bullfighting venue in the region, shocking attendees and sparking outrage in the local community.
Witnesses reported that an argument erupted between the victim and the suspect shortly before the fight escalated into violence.
“The suspect is said to have had a longstanding feud with the deceased, which unfortunately culminated in this tragic loss of life,” remarked area chief Mukhonje Isaac Makomere.
The confrontation occurred just as the two bulls were battling, with hundreds of spectators cheering on the spectacle. In the chaos, the deceased was allegedly slashed with a machete, collapsing to the ground amid cries and confusion.
Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene, with the victim lying in a pool of his own blood as onlookers desperately attempted to drag him away from the enraged bulls.
A video of the incident, obtained by Wananchi Reporting, revealed the victim groaning in pain, blood oozing from his head while bystanders rushed to assist him. Tragically, the young man succumbed to his injuries shortly after the attack.
The local community reacted with fury, and an angry mob of residents armed with sticks and clubs descended upon the suspect, administering severe beatings before law enforcement intervened to restore order.
Elizabeth Susy, the grieving mother of the deceased, expressed her devastation over the incident. “I was called to the scene and arrived only to find my son dead, he had been slashed by a machete,” she lamented, highlighting the pain that the family is enduring following this senseless violence.
The body of the young man has been taken to the Kakamega morgue as police continue their investigation into the incident. Authorities are urging calm in the community while they work to gather more information and bring those responsible to justice.
