Amanda Ruth Black had been attempting to administer medication single-handedly to the menacing reptile named Diablo at her home in Virginia Beach, USA. The 25-year-old’s lifeless body was discovered in front of Diablo’s open tank with the snake freely roaming the room.

Her horrified naval officer husband stumbled upon the ghastly scene upon his return and subsequently decided to have the deadly python euthanised, surrendering their vast collection of reptiles to wildlife officials.

Amanda, who had considerable experience with snakes from her job at a pet store, tragically succumbed to asphyxiation caused by her constrictor wrapping around her neck.

The reticulated python, hailing from Southeast Asia, has the potential to exceed 30ft in length and becomes perilously unpredictable when scared, agitated or misconceiving human hands for prey, reports the Daily Star.

After details of the harrowing 2008 incident were retold by Fierce on YouTube last month, hundreds of viewers were quick to have their say.

One person said: “You’re never in control over something that can physically overpower you. End of story.” Another voiced a stark opinion: “Wild animals are NOT pets.” A further warning said: “Everybody’s an expert until…yeah! ! A 13ft python is not a PET!” echoing the danger of domesticate powerful wild animals.

Another person commented on the tragedy, saying: “Darwinism in full swing. Sometimes a little knowledge is as dangerous as knowing nothing at all. Most people who know nothing at all are smart enough to leave well enough alone.” Another pointed out: “She made a fatal rookie mistake for an experienced handler.”

A third weighed in with: “Reticulated pythons have a huge aggressive prey drive. This is definitely a snake that at that size should not be handled alone.”

They added: “The snake didn’t even do anything wrong it just reacted the way any of the giant snakes can react, like, some can be more docile than others.
