A lawyer named Rueben Charles Okari has written to parliament requesting details of former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho’s academic background.

In a letter dated Friday, July 26, Okari expressed concern on behalf of Kenyans about the former governor and nominee for CS of Mining and Blue Economy’s academic qualifications.

“We refer to the above matter on which we act on our behalf and on behalf of the people of Kenya who are truly concerned about the true qualifications of Hassan Ali Joho, nominee for Cabinet Secretary Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs,” the letter read in part.

In the letter, Okari requested Joho’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate and any other academic qualifications presented by the nominee, citing Article 35(1a) of the Kenyan Constitution and Section 7c of the Public Appointments Act 2011.

“Considering the public interest of this matter please submit by or on Tuesday July 30. We hope that litigation will not be necessary in enforcing this requests,” he added.

Earlier, a review of Joho’s academic credentials was the main topic on the News Gang show on Citizen TV on the evening of Thursday, July 25.

On Thursday, the team, comprising Sam Gituku, Yvonne Okwara, and Linus Kaikai, convened to evaluate President William Ruto’s newest Cabinet nominees.

Gituku concentrated on emphasising the nominees’ academic qualifications to evaluate their fitness for the roles.

All was smooth until he stumbled on what was supposed to be Joho’s credentials.

Although the other nominees had verifiable academic backgrounds, Gituku appeared hesitant when discussing Joho’s qualifications, indicating a potential uncertainty.
