During an interview on Citizen TV, the Azimio principal clarified that President William Ruto had yet to approach him for the government position but maintained that he would not take up the role if asked.

Kalonzo, while insisting on the matter, claimed that it was too late for the Head of State to approach him for the deputy president position, alleging that President Ruto intended to have Gachagua’s replacement by Friday this week.

โ€œFirst of all, it has not been offered and Kenyans should know that President Ruto intends to have a deputy president in place by Friday this week. He has not approached me because he knows I will not accept,โ€ Kalonzo clarified.

The former Vice President further faulted the Head of State for politically instigating DP Gachaguaโ€™s impeachment at both the National Assembly and the Senate. According to the Wiper Party leader, President Ruto was fully behind the decisions made at the National Assembly and the Senate.

According to Kalonzo, Gachaguaโ€™s impeachment was already pre-decided and the second in command had only the option of moving to court to salvage his career.

โ€œThe impeachment process is predetermined. The National Assembly will have a special sitting on Friday which means they have already prejudged what the Senate will decide,โ€ Kalonzo claimed.

โ€œThis is a country that has now been bedeviled with corruption of all kinds. Unless the courts come and stop the whole process, Gachaguaโ€™s goose is cooked because President Ruto by Friday will bring his nominee before the National Assembly,โ€ he added.

Kalonzo further commended DP Gachagua’s decision not to resign from his position stating that the deputy president risked being charged if he resigned before his impeachment was determined by the Senate.

“I respect his judgment because of the stage at which this process is now. If DP Gachagua resigns, he risks being charged with demeaning his character. The population is on his side because they see injustice,” the Azimio leader revealed.

DP Gachagua is set to face the Senate plenary after the High Court on Tuesday declined to stop his impeachment. During the Senate hearing that is set to commence on Wednesday at 9 am, both the National Assembly and DP Gachagua’s team will present their lawyers and witnesses.

The trial house will then proceed to cross-examine witnesses from both sides before granting a chance for the lawyers to present their defence after which the Senate shall vote to decide Gachagua’s fateโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
