Speaking in Kisumu County, the party chairperson Gladys Wanga dismissed allegations that the party does not harbour an interest in contesting for the highest seat in the land.

The Homa Bay Governor further clarified that the ODM party was still in opposition and just like any other political party in the country, it would front candidates for elective positions from the lowest cadre which is the seat of the Member of County Assembly to the highest seat of the presidency in the upcoming general elections.

Governor Wanga while addressing the press, exuded confidence that the opposition party had the capability of clinching the presidency in the 2027 general elections.

โ€œIn the coming elections, we hope that our party will sweep seats starting from MCA, MPS, Senators, Governors and we are not going to leave any seat including the presidency, ODM is moving forward,โ€ Wanga revealed.

Wanga went ahead to express satisfaction with Prime Minister Raila Odingaโ€™s decision to appoint Kisumu Governor Anyangโ€™ Nyongโ€™o as the interim party leader. According to Wanga, Nyongโ€™o was among the partyโ€™s founding members and is qualified to hold the position based on his experience, networks and capacity.

“To our interim leader, we will walk with you, we will work with you, you were tried and tested, you were the original, founding Secretary General of the ODM party. You know where this movement has come from,” Wanga said as she showered praise on the Kisumu Governor.

“We are not afraid to say that in your hands, this party will grow to greater heights, so we are going to be looking up to you for your guidance. I want to tell our members that our home is ODM, This is what we will build,” she added.

Wanga’s sentiments come hardly four days after Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi revealed that the ODM party would back William Ruto’s candidacy in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a tree-planting exercise in Kericho County on Friday, October 11, Wandayi stated that the opposition party was fully behind the Head of State despite criticism over its controversial decision to join President Ruto’s administration.

“I believe that our political partnership will hold strong beyond 2027. We have decided to work with President William Ruto and will stay committed to that cause. We are part and parcel of the government and the government’s foundations remain strong,” CS Wandayi stated.

“It is our responsibility to ensure the government remains strong. Let us keep supporting the president so that he can continue leading the government even beyond the next electionsโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
