Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka beat the likes of teammate Gabriel Martinelli and Manchester City frontman Erling Haaland to win the PFA Young Player of the Year Award on Tuesday evening.
Saka enjoyed a stellar 2022/23 Premier League campaign, registering 25 goals and assists combined as Mikel Arteta’s side shocked plenty of football fans to finish second, just five points behind eventual champions Manchester City. That kind of form didn’t go unnoticed either, with the 21-year-old one of six talented youngsters nominated for the award, which he eventually won.
After the awards ceremony, the Hale End academy graduate took to social media to voice his satisfaction. Writing on Instagram, he said: “It’s an honour for me to accept this award and have my name alongside the previous winners.
“To have your peers acknowledge you is a very special feeling! Thank you to the PFA and congratulations to all the other winners and nominees this evening.”
Plenty of the game’s biggest names commented on the post, including Real Madrid starlet Jude Bellingham, who sent heart and clap emojis. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was another to congratulate the Arsenal starlet, also leaving a clapping emoji on the post.
Saka wasn’t the only Gunners player to be recognised for their impressive performances last season, with William Saliba, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale all named alongside the England international in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year….READFULL
