According to a highly placed source who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke who were present at the Safari Park Hotel where the voting took place, the female governors stormed out after their demands were ignored.

The female governors are reported to have fronted the candidatures of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and her Machakos counterpart Wavinya Ndeti to be considered for the Vice Chairperson, pleas that fell on deaf ears of their male counterparts.

They, therefore, stormed out of the voting venue in protest just before the results were about to be announced after one of them whispered to her colleagues to stage the walkout.

”If you can see from the list, it is only Wavinya Ndeti who is on that lineup where the others are all male Governors. They had presented the names of Gladys Wanga and Wavinya Ndeti to be considered for the vice chairperson role, a condition that was not granted.โ€™โ€™ the source who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed.

”This prompted them to walk out just before the results were announced after one of them asked her colleagues to walk out.โ€™โ€™

All these happened even as Chief Justice Martha Koome, who was in attendance, watched in amazement.

”Remember they all walked out of the meeting and the Chief Justice Martha Koome was also present. However, Anne Waiguru did not walk out as this was her event,โ€™โ€™ the source added.

The election was also delayed after disagreements emerged over the election criteria to be used in electing the new CoG chairperson. This saw the process suffer a stalemate of over 5 hours before a consensus was reached to have the exercise subjected to a secret ballot.

The move by the female county bosses is likely to cause a division at the Council of Governors.

The female bosses had previously indicated that they would be spearheading an exercise across the country to see their G7 caucus undergo expansion to include half the number of electable gubernatorial positions to have it renamed to G24.

Interestingly, only one female Governor made it to the new list of the CoG leadership that is Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti who was elected the Trade Committee chairpersonโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
