Ronaldo scored his 700th goal.

Manchester United’s players celebrated Cristiano Ronaldo scoring 700 club career goals in the dressing room on Monday.

Ronaldo did not start against Everton at Goodison Park at the weekend, but Anthony Martial was forced to exit the pitch in the 30th minute with an injury that was sustained in the pre-match warm-up and he was substituted on to replace the Frenchman.

It did not take long for Ronaldo to make an impact in the match, as he scored just before half-time when finding space down the left wing and lashing the ball beyond Jordan Pickford, who could not deny the 37-year-old his 700th club career goal.

Erik ten Hag praised Ronaldo after the game and the tributes to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner continued on Monday, with United’s players honouring the remarkable achievement by giving Ronaldo a shirt at Carrington with ‘700’ emboldened on the back.

The players have honoured Ronaldo with individual messages on social media and Alejandro Garnacho is the latest to send a message to the Portuguese star, writing on Instagram: “Breaking record after record, congrats idol @cristiano.”

Garnacho scored two goals against Nottingham Forest in the U18s’ FA Youth Cup triumph at Old Trafford last season and he celebrated his second strike in that match by reproducing Ronaldo’s trademark goal celebration.
