Potter has only played just a Champions League game, but he has had an opportunity to get to know some of the players he will be working with.
Numerous academy youngsters will try to use the absence of many senior players who left for international games as an opportunity to work extra hard to win over the new manager, who has a clean slate.
In 2016, Rankine enrolled in the Chelsea youth program, and he quickly made an impact. When Exeter faced the youthful Blues in the Papa John’s Trophy last year, manager Matt Taylor hailed Rankine for his “lightning pace” and praised the whole Exeter squad.
