Tonight against Maccabi Haifa, in a first half when the likes of Neymar and Mbappé missed clear-cut chances to score, Messi spared their blushes and leveled things up for PSG before the end of the first 45 minutes.
With just a minute gone, Kylian Mbappé was sent through on goal but surprisingly failed to convert from such a close range as seen on the picture below.
Few minutes later, the Frenchman got another opportunity to make up for his previous miss but still couldn’t place the ball inside the net.
The home side capitalized on PSG’s wastefulness and punished them on the 24th minute when Tjaronn Chery opened the scoring with a brilliant finish.
However, Messi came to the rescue after the half-hour mark to pull PSG level on terms whilst setting two new records.
The Argentine is now the very first and only player to score in 18 consecutive seasons in the UEFA Champions League.
Messi has also surpassed his rival Cristiano Ronaldo (38) for most teams scored against in the UCL.
Unfortunately for Ronaldo, he is on duty with Manchester United in the Europa League this season and might witness Messi break more of his records before the current UCL campaign comes to a close.
