17-year old Eiður Guðjohnsen made his international debut on 24 April 1996, coming on as a second-half substitute for his father Arnór Guðjohnsen in Iceland’s 3-0 win against Estonia in Tallinn.

A proud father, Arnór gave Eiður a kiss on the cheek. This was the first time in history father and son had played for the same team in an international match.

The Guðjohnsens actually wanted to play together in that match but Eggert Magnússon, the then president of the Football Association of Iceland, wanted that moment to take place in their own country.

However, that moment never came, as Eiður got injured a month later and by the time he was fit again for selection, his father had retired after scoring 14 goals in 73 appearances for Iceland.
