The Red Devils enjoyed possession in early stages of the match with Southampton on the other hand pressing them high up the pitch & not giving them enough space & time to operate in their half.
The first clear cut chance of the match fell to the Manchester based outfit, with United players having three good efforts at goal, the first from Bruno Fernandes off an header, the second a rebounded effort from Anthony Elanga & the third from Christian Eriksen which was well blocked & saved by the Southampton’s backline & goalie, Bazunu.
The Saints also had their chances, with Che Adams coming close to opening the scoring with a brilliant header, but he saw his effort go over the bar.
But it was Erik Ten Hag’s side who broke the deadlock in the second half from a lovely attacking move, which was volleyed in by Bruno Fernandes off an assist from his fellow countryman, Diogo Dalot.
Erik Ten Hag brought on some players in the 2nd period to add more intensity, stability & energy in the middle & going forward, with Cristiano Ronaldo replacing Jadon Sancho & Casemiro getting his debut.
The Red Devils held on till the end to secure three crucial Points away from home.
