Busia Father Of 3 Builds Underground House To Avoid Land Disputes: “Wazo Lininikujia Ndotoni”

A man has amused his neighbours with his unorthodox house design for himself and his family. Kevin Onyango built a lovely underground house for his family to avoid land disputes, among other reasons, since he was given a small plot of land. “It was not easy to bring the dream to reality. I faced a lot of challenges before starting to build this house. When I talked to my mother, she was against it. She said she had never seen such a house and tried to discourage me from proceeding with the plans. However, she added she could not stop me from doing what I wanted. She desired me to have a house, but not like this,” he said.

The house is supported by wood, and there was no evidence of concrete being used anywhere in the building. The video footage showed he had enough space to rear chickens and goats.

At first, his wife did not also agree with Onyango’s plans, but she could not do much to convince him to change his mind. “She feared that she had never seen such a house, but I assured her I will make it habitable and that if God helps me, I will make it better,” Onyango from Boro Nango village, Butula constituency, Busia county shared.

Onyango’s wife said she was amazed after the house completion but noted several challenges.

“Coming here with food is sometimes a challenge, but we manage. I did not like the idea, but afterwards, I loved the house,” she added.

The house was fitted with an excellent flatscreen television, implying the family had access to electricity. In another story, Andres Canto’s underground cave was fitted with a coal stove to prepare his meals, a sound system and Wi-Fi.

The project, which took Canto eight years to build, also had four electrical plug sockets to power his electricity needs.
