The match was forced to be played at the Necmi̇ Kadioğlu Sports Complex in Istanbul because of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

After full-time, Real Madrid midfielder Camavinga offered the Ukrainian players the French team’s shirts in the dressing room as a show of solidarity.

He also delivered a message of support in broken English.

“This is the shirts for all of you because I know, we know, that the situation is very complicated. This is a present for all of you,” said Camavinga.

He added: “The bad situation, I hope and all persons in Europe hope that the situation will be better.”

He then received a round of applause from the Ukrainian players and staff.

Camavinga, 19, has also received praise on social media for the gesture.

“So classy man, respect to him,” wrote one Twitter user.

Another added: “He’s got so much respect and class man.”

A third wrote: “I’m so proud of him. such a lovely man at that age.”

Camavinga was born in a refugee camp in Cabinda, Angola in 2002 and move to France when he was two years old.

In 2019, he became the youngest player to feature for Rennes’ first-team when hen he made his debut against Angers at the age of 16 years, four months and 27 days.

He joined Real Madrid in 2021 and made 26 league appearances in his debut season at the Bernabeu, helping Madrid win both the La Liga title and the Champions League.

But despite all of his success in recent years, he clearly remains grounded. No doubt he has a bright future for both Real Madrid and France.
