For nearly four months, Kenyans have been treated to a confounding drama about an apparent falling-out between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, culminating in rumours about an impending impeachment motion against the Deputy President....CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE

While the leaders themselves have remained silent on the grounds of their differences, their allies have engaged in mutual accusations of betrayal and sabotage. Supporters of the President have reportedly explored various strategies to remove Gachagua from his position.

Gachagua, who has become increasingly vocal in recent days, has stopped just short of directly blaming Ruto for his troubles. In a recent televised interview that sparked impeachment discussions, Gachagua opened up about his frustrations, claiming his treatment was worse than what Ruto experienced as deputy to former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Amid this political drama, Kenya continues to grapple with economic challenges, unemployment, police brutality, a struggling education system, corruption, and rising prices of essential goods. Essential government services, including healthcare, pensions, and public university operations, are reportedly nearing a standstill as the leaders’ conflict intensifies.

Some are speculating whether this face-off might be a distraction, creating opportunities for State-friendly cartels to exploit the situation. Notably, several controversial issues have arisen during this period, including the Adani Group’s expanding influence, the implementation of the Social Health Insurance Fund, and new taxes on horticultural products..
