The gathering, which took place at a Nairobi hotel, saw senior government officials and allies of President William Ruto convene to strategize on the impeachment process against Gachagua, who faces mounting political pressure.

The meeting was chaired by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, and at least 30 MPs attended, according to insider reports.

The purpose of the meeting was to solidify support for the impeachment motion, which has already garnered the signatures of several Members of Parliament.

Sources reveal that the charges against Gachagua, which will form the basis of the impeachment motion, are already prepared and will be tabled in the National Assembly as early as this week or next.

Allegations against the Deputy President include violations of the Constitution, gross misconduct, and abuse of office.

Gachagua’s controversial remarks about shareholding in the Kenya Kwanza government and his perceived divisive politics favoring the Mt. Kenya region have rattled legislators.

Additionally, his direct attack on National Intelligence Service Director General Noordin Haji during anti-government protests has been cited as compromising national security.

During the meeting, MPs were reportedly confident that they had built an airtight case. National Assembly Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya confirmed that signature collection was ongoing and that bipartisan support had emerged.

“Even those sympathetic to him have abandoned him,” Baya stated, emphasizing that the case would be difficult to overturn.

As momentum builds for the impeachment, Gachagua has not remained idle. He is said to have held a counter-meeting at his official residence in Karen, rallying allies to block the process.
