It was revealed that the driver decided to escape into an unfamiliar untarmacked road after NTSA officials set camp in Salama along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
The NTSA officials were in the region to nab motorists driving unroadworthy vehicles. While escaping the NTSA officials, the driver who was carrying 46 passengers in the minibus lost control and plunged the vehicle into a river.
According to security officials from the region, seven people sustained injuries following the avoidable accident. They were immediately rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
Police officers who responded to the scene noted that no fatalities were reported. Following the accident, the driver of the minibus was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in court on Thursday, April 11.
The accident happened a few days after 10 people lost their lives following an accident involving five vehicles in Makueni County.
Incidentally, the accident happened in Salama, the same spot where NTSA officials had set camp, and over 17 people who were injured during the incident were rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital, the same facility where Wednesday’s passengers were rushed.
