Lucy Nyambura, the accused, appeared before the Nakuru Law Courts following her arrest on Thursday, March 14, after detectives raided her residence based on complaints alleging she fraudulently obtained Ksh40 million by posing as Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

Among the twelve complainants are former Nakuru Mayor Herman Nderi and his associate Peter Mwangi, who were purportedly promised land parcels of various sizes in Nakuru’s Milimani Estate, Karen, Kitusuru, and Kileleshwa in Nairobi County, along with housing units in Nakuru’s Bondeni Estate.

According to reports, Nyambura allegedly provided the complainants with fraudulent land allotment letters and arranged meetings with government officials to lend credibility to the purported deals.

Despite never meeting the complainants face-to-face, she reportedly communicated with them over the phone, assuming the identity of Governor Kihika.

During a police raid at her residence, authorities discovered photographs of Nyambura posing alongside the President, Governor Kihika, and even former Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Joel Kairo.

Detectives investigating the case traced the fraudulent funds to Nyambura’s bank account. Lucy pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a Ksh8 million bond with a similar surety.

One of the complainants, Nderi sued the State for torture by prison officers following his arrest on charges of plotting to topple former President Daniel Moi’s government.
