This rising cost of living prompted most Kenyans to look for alternative sources of income, like small businesses In a Facebook group discussion, Kenyans shared business ideas most people ignore but with high profit.

Kenyans have shared most profitable business ideas, which most people usually ignore. The rising cost of living in the country and decreasing income streams has become a centre of focus for most Kenyans.

Data from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) in February 2024 indicated that inflation regained momentum to 6.9%, up from 6.8% in January 2024.

This trend prompted many people to think of alternative sources of income. In a Facebook group dubbed Tujengane – Business Ideas Plug, one user Jeremy Ndungu asked about a profitable business.

This resulted in a list of business ideas with high return from Kenyans. Mohammed Mwangi, a Facebook user explained that businesses that involve production, especially food production gives high return.

About posho mill business, he recommended running it with a trusted fellow or by yourself. Mwangi advised buying a beef cow and rearing it for a period of two to three years to make the profit.

Another Kenyan, Jo Hn (Facebook handle) recommended dairy farming, citing an increase in prices. The government announced measures to bolster dairy farmers’ incomes with a KSh 900 million allocation to Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) to stabilise prices.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua noted that milk prices will increase to KSh 50 per litre from the current KSh 45, effective March 1, 2024.

Another Facebook user Mohammed Mwangi, suggested fish farming, directing Kenyans to visit county department of fisheries to obtain more insights.

He said the pond can carry up to a capacity of 5,000 catfish fingerlings. According to the current market price, a mature harvested catfish will cost around KSh 200.

Kamau Susan suggested starting a salon, kinyozi or tailoring business, giving high returns.

Martha Njoki wrote: Other ideas listed included grocery, poultry farming, and ice vending businesses.
