Note that Mr. Atiku Abubakar, former Kwara State governor Bukola Saraki and Aminu Tambuwal slugged it out in the last exercise. One of them, Saraki, has declared ambition once again. Meanwhile, the southern governors made it clear that the next president needed to come from south. They disclosed this in Lagos State in one of their meetings.
It should be clear that if the southern politicians face the northern region individually, they will lose. The north has an edge because of the number of states and local government areas. Then, rather than going to the race as individuals, the southern politicians can come together and team up to face the north.
At this time, Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim has shown his interest in the ticket of the opposition party. The former senate president is among the earliest persons to come out to say their ambition for 2023. He wants to confront the challenges.
In the southwest region, Mr. Doyin Okupe has also said he had interest in the ticket of the party. He has his own loyalists, but they may not be enough to surpress the challenges from northern elite. Hence, he just needs to team up with other interested persons.
The top PDP stalwarts in the southern region may have to come together and adopt a candidate, a consensus candidate for that matter for the job. They just need to queue behind one person who can confront the north.
The northern region may be fragmented. They united in their choice for Mr. Iyorchia Ayu. They endorsed and adopted him as the consensus candidate for the PDP job. However, the same thing may not happen in the race for the presidential ticket.
