The service operates in harsh, remote and hostile climatic environments. It recruits men and women who can endure the conditions for training and development in various conservative areas as rangers in response to the wildlife security challenges being experienced in the country.

Successful candidates undergo mandatory basic intensive paramilitary training at the KWS Law Enforcement Academy in Manyani before posting to the field for park and security operations.

The recruitment exercise is conducted based on a representation of the 47 counties in Kenya. The number of candidates to be recruited from each county is openly announced by KWS before the recruitment exercise kicks off.

Recruitment dates and centres are usually announced by KWS. Interested candidates who meet the following requirements are requested to present themselves at the recruitment centres.

NB: The recruitment exercise is only conducted by a team of officers appointed by the KWS Director General in designated recruitment centres. It is conducted in a transparent and fair manner in all 47 counties free of charge.
