Okonkwo, a prominent figure in Nollywood, shared a personal example to support his views. He spoke about the groundbreaking success of the movie Living in Bondage, which is considered the film that launched Nollywood. Okonkwo emphasized that the movie, shot in Lagos by an Igbo filmmaker, was accepted and loved by Nigerians from all regions, despite it being an Igbo film.

“If Nigerians had anything against the Igbos, they would not have embraced Living in Bondage,” he said. This, he believes, shows that no one is deliberately trying to marginalize the Igbos, as the spirit of excellence is always recognized and appreciated, regardless of the source.
