After his discharge, Gachagua expressed deep regret for supporting President William Ruto, whom he now holds responsible for the political turmoil that led to his impeachment by the Senate.

In a passionate address, Gachagua lamented feeling โ€œviciouslyโ€ betrayed by a president he believed he had helped elevate to power. โ€œI didnโ€™t know President Ruto could be that vicious. I am shocked by how a man I believed in and supported could turn against me when I am literally fighting for my life in the hospital,โ€ he declared.

Gachagua recounted the political fallout he has experienced since taking office, claiming that he had been made aware of a covert plan to prevent him from attending the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kwale. According to him, all helicopter operators were instructed to deny him access.

โ€œI bear no grudge against anybody, but the man I see now is not the one I thought I knew,โ€ he said. Gachagua also complained of losing security, noting that officers assigned to him had been disarmed and withdrawn from his residences in Karen and Nyeri, which he described as a punitive measure against him.

The former Deputy President issued a stark warning to President Ruto, asserting that he must be held accountable if anything were to happen to him or his family. โ€œIf anything happens to me or my family, President Ruto must be held to account,โ€ he stated.

Despite the Senateโ€™s decision to impeach him on October 17, 2024, Gachagua maintains that he is still the Deputy President due to a court-issued stay order and vows to utilize legal avenues to challenge the impeachment decision. Ruto has since nominated Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to assume Gachaguaโ€™s former roleโ€ฆCLICK HERE TO READ MORE ARTICLES>>>
