Kalonzo made these remarks during his visit to Soweto in Kibra, Nairobi County, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

Kalonzo condemned the government’s actions criticizing the demolitions, which were carried out under the guise of the Affordable Housing project, arguing that they are unjust and inhumane.

During his visit, Kalonzo reassured the affected residents that he and his party would stand by them, offering support in the courts and direct action. He pledged to hold the government accountable for what he called “callous” decisions, stating that the demolitions were being carried out without regard for the residents’ welfare.

Kalonzo called on citizens to unite and ensure Ruto’s administration goes home and restore confidence in the country’s leadership.

“Thank you, the great people of Soweto, Kibra, Nairobi County, for your exceptional welcome earlier today. As your Alternative Government, we will continue to defend and fight for your rights in the courts and on the ground. We will not stand by as this uncaring and callous regime demolishes your homes in the dead of the night and on the pretext of Affordable Housing,” Kalonzo declared.

“We will not idle by as this compromised regime mortgages our beloved country at the expense of the People. Let us unite in our efforts to ensure that the Ruto dictatorship goes home and confidence in Kenya’s leadership is restored,” Kalonzo added.

Kalonzo’s sentiments come following the demolitions, which began in June 2024, and were ordered as part of the government’s effort to clear illegal structures on riparian land, following widespread flooding that affected several parts of the country.
