Kenya Police is divided into General Duty and Formations. General Duty comprises components with regions being the largest and police patrol bases being the smallest.
Regional Police Commander is in charge of a Region (formerly Provinces), County Police Commander is in charge of Officers in the County, Sub-County Police Commander Superintends Sub-County (previously called District). Officer Commanding Station (OCS) is in charge of a Police Station in a Ward and oversees all its Police Posts and Patrol Bases (Ward Commander)
Female police officers, according to the organisation that champions women’s rights, account for 11 per cent of the total National Police Service workforce.
The number of female officers in the National Police Service had significantly reduced to 9 per cent, denoting a setback for gender equality in Kenya.
UN Women also noted that women are less represented in key institutions in society due to many factors, including stereotypes about their role in society, which may discourage women from pursuing a career in law enforcement.
However, being a female police officer in Kenya can pose challenges. Kenyan culture is part of the African old patriarchal system where women are not placed in places of power. In most cases men will feel degraded if I arrest them. Sometimes they even use sexual advances, thinking that’s what I need to get them off the hook.
It is important that women are part of the police force because most people find women more understanding. Women have a unique way of policing that is generally based on communications.
Female officials are not permitted to engage in the following five activities:
1. A young union while serving in the military
Female officials must serve a temporary term, which frequently lasts close to three years, before being allowed to be married.
2. They should be in the military for a minimum of three years before making an effort to date someone.
3. Formulae for teeth.
It is also essential to have the right dental formula. In an interview with NTV, Captain Werunga clarified that femake police officers must be toothless since soldiers in challenging terrain will subsist on dry rations.
4. Expression of Love for Civilians or Coworkers in Public
It is very improbable that someone would, for example, kiss their standard or occupant helpers to publicly demonstrate their willingness to collaborate with others.
5. Another essential component of masculine dominance is the capacity to manage the aftermath from their deeds in the unlikely event that they are found to have taken part in such performances.
6. Shoulder-length hair that is long
In the military, long-haired officer women are looked down upon.
They should always maintain a decent and well-groomed hairstyle.
7. Tattoos
