Whilst it’s true that relationships involve compromise, boundaries also play their part when it comes to creating a healthy balance. There’s a big difference between compromising to ensure things are fair, and sacrificing the things that really matter to you....CONTINUE READING

Relationships should never be one-sided. To be a success, both partners have to make the commitment to respect one another’s needs and happiness.

With this in mind, we’re taking a look at eight things you should never sacrifice for a relationship.

1. Your health: Yes, some relationships can put so much stress on you that can increase the risk of some sickness such as hypertension, heart problems, low immune system, increased infections, insomnia, anxiety and even depression. I’m emphasizing on this point because sometimes love blinds you and the next thing you know, you’re sick mentally or physically.

I’ve been in a relationship that drained all my energy, that caused me anxiety, insomnia and for a while depression. Glad I got rid of it, life’s much brighter than that. Love isn’t always enough.

2. Your self-respect: One day, you’ll love someone so much, to the extent that you’ll put that person before you. Nothing wrong with that, but never let them abuse this and never accept it when they start taking you for granted.

3. Your strength: Sometimes, you’re too weak in love that you forget how strong you were before you met that person. Never lose your strength for someone.

4. Your motivation: Never accept being with someone who does not motivate you to become a better person, encourages you and agrees with your dreams, plans and motives.

5. Your independance: One of the most important points. Sometimes, without knowing it, you become co-dependant and even addicted to a special person. This becomes unhealthy. You don’t live for someone else. You live for you. At the end of the day, even your shadow can leave you at night.

If you’re so dependant towards your partners and that person decides to leave you one day, how will you feel? Know your limits and know when to stop any excess unhealthy attachement.

6. Your character: Don’t become another person once you meet someone that you like. Don’t change for anyone. Don’t mimic the bad traits of a partner.

Sometimes you spend so much time with someone that you start becoming like them. You can always change to the better, refining your personality, but NEVER change to the worst.

7. Your friends and family: Some partners get too jealous and overprotective. Let them go. Sometimes you’re the one that accepts losing everyone for the sake of love. Think twice, if that person ever leaves you, you’ll end up alone.

8. Your smile: Hardships will come through, problems will happen, but make sure the good times exceed the bad times. Never let someone make you cry without fixing it and never allow it to happen often. It’s time to let go if tears and smile.

Most importantly, never lose yourself.
