Unfortunately, as of late, it seems as though everyone around you has something they need money for.

Whether they have a new business, project, charity, or fundraiser, it can feel like the requests just keep pouring in.

Since you wouldn’t want an unpaid loan to cause an awkward situation or a rift between your loved ones, you will have to learn how to say no so follow these tips.

1. Make it your rule

State it clearly to your relatives or family members not to ask you for money.

Not necessarily being selfish but because since they are your loved ones, if they have a problem and you can be of help, you will surely help them.

By communicating this to your loved ones, they would feel sad when you don’t give in to their requests.

2. Refuse promptly

If you don’t have or it’s not in your intentions to give, say it immediately. You don’t have to ask the person to come later, you are only raising their hopes.

They may go home thinking that they have found a solution to their problem when it is just you being scared of saying no. You’ll come off politer in the situation by simply being considerate enough to answer their request in a timely manner.

3. Be clear, to-the-point, and polite

Beating around the bush only serves to confuse the parties involved and could lead to you giving when your intention was to say no.
Be firm, but polite, and concise. Don’t give your friend or family member room to argue in the first place.

4. Be aware of what you can give and make it a pact not to go past it

You cannot render help to everyone no matter how much you try, but if you get such requests everyday, create a special giving find from your budget of which if used up or consumed, you can simply explain that your allotted giving amount has been used up for a particular period of time, say a year or month.

5. Offer to help in other ways

In most situations, money is not the only way you can help someone out. Sometimes, being emotionally present for someone is help in itself.

You can offer someone connection to get a job, a reliable friend who can loan some money, contact or foodstuffs. Either ways, make sure you make mention that you cannot help financially.
